AET uses a “holistic” approach to helping improve access and quality of primary education in schools in Africa. It works with and helps to provide training for the staff of Ministries of Education and local authorities. It provides funds to local communities to help them build classrooms and school facilities. It works with women in the communities so that they can encourage and improve facilities and education for girls. It provides new relevant local learning materials and mobile libraries and it trains teachers in how to use them.
AET is currently providing support to primary school children in over 100 schools Southern Sudan and to smaller numbers in Uganda and Kenya. Over the past ten years over half a million children in primary schools have benefited from programmes supported by AET.
