AET in cooperation with the University of Fort Hare in South Africa has developed a special programme in Public Administration and Management by Distance Teaching especially for people living in countries in conflict or emerging from conflict. It is designed to enable people who want to continue working inside their own country to gain university level certificates, diplomas and master’s degrees by distance teaching. Almost 200 people have now completed one or more of the courses successfully and have been awarded certificates or diplomas by the University of Fort Hare and a number are already studying on the masters’ course.

Amoud University Secondary School Teacher Certificate and Degree Programme

AET is currently supporting up to one hundred students on the Secondary Teacher Training Certificate Programme of the Amoud University in Somaliland. From 2008 onwards students who complete the Certificate will be eligible to study on a new distance teaching degree programme at the University.

Scholarships and Study Grants in Africa and Europe

Each year the Trust is able to provide a number of scholarships for students who wish to study on further and higher education courses in Africa. It also provides a small number of grants for students to study in Europe (mainly in the UK). Since 1998 the majority of our scholarships and grants have been for students from Southern Sudan. All AET scholarships and grants are given to help people from Africa who intend to use their qualifications and skills in or for use in Africa.

The Trust also runs an Emergency Small Grants scheme for students who have come from Africa on a Student Visa and are already studying in the UK. This small grant is restricted to African students who have encountered unexpected financial problems in the last few months of a college or university course in the UK.

University College London (UCL) and Africa Educational Trust Scholarships

The Africa Educational Trust is collaborating with the University College London (UCL) in a scheme to enable students from Africa, who are financially unable to study in the UK, to pursue undergraduate studies at UCL. Full bursaries are provided yearly to two AET nominated students for the duration of their undergraduate studies. Bursary winners in 2007 are now studying Electronic Engineering with Communications Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Applications can only be considered from candidates who have followed the detailed procedures for this scheme. Follow this link for more details.
