Schools and non-formal classes are dependent on people and organisations being able to manage and deliver education, such as community groups, youth groups, women's groups, local training organisations, teacher training colleagues, universities and ministries. A key role and priority for AET is to worrk with and help to build the capacity, skills and experience of local partners.
Working with the British Council, AET is helping to build the capacity of a wide range of government and local organisations in Sudan. It is supporting training for capacity building in the Ministries of Education, Health and Agriculture as well as in local women's and youth groups. It is providing training in basic computing skills for 2,400 staff of government offices and local organisations. It is also providing English language courses for 600 staff who have been educated in Arabic and French. In Somalia and Somaliland AET has helped to develop the capacity of Community Education Committees in thirty IDP (Internally displaced persons) camps and the teaching and management skills of teachers and trainers in fifteen teacher cooperatives.
A major aim of the Trust is to help ensure that all of the skills that are needed for planning, management and delivery of education and development programmes are available locally.
